Year 4 stars represent St.John's for Tour de Yorkshire

Year 4 represented our school and our town when Sir Gary Verity visited our town today. In preparation for the Tour de Yorkshire on Sunday, the chief executive of Welcome to Yorkshire chose Penistone as one of the towns he visited before the event.
Several of our children were interviewed for TV and radio and spoke brilliantly...listen to Heart FM/Capital, Radio Sheffield and Dearne FM through the day plus Calendar News this evening!
Everyone behaved beautifully and were fine representatives for our school.

Dinosaur Disaster in Year 2!

This morning, children in Year 2 arrived at school to find that their classroom had been ransacked by mysterious visitors! Tables had been overturned, plants had been scattered and an egg had been carefully stowed in a makeshift nest.
The children, who at first were hortified, soon rose to the challenge of becoming investigators. They pieced together the clues and concluded that the invaders were dinosaurs, transported through time and on the hunt for food which was scarce in their land.

Luckily, nothing was taken and the mess soon cleared.

However, we do still have the small problem of incubating a dinosaur egg... Updates shortly.

Easter Eggs for Foodbank

Key Stage 2 have collected Easter Eggs to donate to the Barnsley Foodbank as part of 4JJ/5JS work on Archbishop of York Youth Trust Young Leader Award. An amazing total of 66 eggs were collected and sent to local families in need.
Connor and Michelle from the Food bank came to collect them and were very grateful for their generosity. Special mention to Kieron who donated the egg that he won for egg rolling today. Well done!

4JJ Rock the egg rolling

Blue Whales have had a fun time rolling eggs in celebration of Easter. There were some amazing creations...winners to be revealed later!

St John's ready for the Tour de Yorkshire

Hopefully by now you will have noticed our amazing and vibrant display across all 11 of the windows in Clarks Chemist!
This has been a real team effort by pupils and staff across school and will certainly encourage the cyclists when they come past on 30th April!
In case you were wondering, we are not allowed to mention the Tour de Yorkshire for branding purposes hence the support for our chosen team, Team Great Britain Cycling! (Little factoid of the day!).
Please do go and admire it, we feel very proud of our bold statement!

Heritage Penistone

Our Key Stage 2 children have been doing amazing work on the heritage of our town. Working in mixed age groups, they created large pieces of artwork to represent important features. Yesterday, Julie Edwards from Historic England visited and was most impressed with their work. The Deputy Mayor of Penistone, Andrew Milner, came to judge the projects. After much deliberation , the TransPennine Trail piece was chosen as the overall winner. Well done to all pupils staff who have shown great creativity and hard work to rpodeuce these projects in two short sessions!
