Fencing lessons for Y6

Look what we found!

Look what we found!!

Since February half term we have been eagerly keeping an eye on the terraced bird box that green group made with Mr Rolls last year. We first noticed a piece of straw hanging out of one of the holes, and then in the weeks that followed we noticed a bird flying in and out occasionally.

Having not seen much activity over the last few weeks, while on welly walk this morning we decided to have a sneaky peak to see if there had been a nest built this year.

When we peered inside we found a blue tit!

When we got back from welly walk our green group children watched a video of a blue tit making its nest, laying its eggs and then incubating them until they hatched, and finally watched the fledglings leave the nest.

Class 4's Maths Wizard

Well done to this week's maths wizard:-)

Fun in the Sun

Our children in EYFS and KS1 have all had a busy and active lunchtime in the sun today.

Just a reminder that now we are in the summer months it would be brilliant to see the children keeping safe in the sun with sun hats and sun cream.  Thank you!

KS1 Celebrations

KS1 had a fantastic surprise in celebrations assembly today when they were visited by two mermaids!

It was wonderful to be visited by parent and author Sarah McDermott, and hearing all about her new story 'A Slippery Secret' (sequel to 'A Sweet Secret') which is available to buy now.

The children were very lucky to receive a special reading of the story by Sarah, as well as being allowed the opportunity to ask her questions about what it is like to be an author.

Furthermore, it was lovely to celebrate the work of our writers at St John's.  Children were selected across Year 1 and 2 for their excellent effort in writing.   It was great to share the children's brilliant work with the school. These children received a Headteacher's award from Sarah.  Well done to all of our brilliant writers and thank you to Sarah for visiting us!

Year 5 visit to Experience Barnsley

Year 5 had an amazing time at Experience Barnsley. They worked with an artist to create part of an installation that will commemorate 100 years since the Battle of the Somme.
Each child made a medal that will form part of this very moving memorial in July.
